The torment of the life of politics. Survey that cabinet table: each person is confronted with exceptionally challenging portfolios devoid of the tools to do what they understand is needed.

The legacy they received was more catastrophic than anticipated: they were bequeathed landmines, misleading obstacles and enormous voids. The EU departure is proving to be more economically devastating than expected, resulting in the loss of the exchequer £80bn a year.

Public Opinion Puzzles

Yet, even so, the present hostile state of voter perception is puzzling and worrying. Keir Starmer is the most unpopular prime minister ever. Actually?

He is a honorable, committed person of noble purposes, without undue arrogance or ego. Compare that with Boris Johnson, the brief Conservative leader, or the breezy presumption of the ex-Prime Minister, all with so little to warrant arrogant assurance.

Leadership Challenges

The government mishandled over cuts for retirees and individuals with special needs, unbalanced by spending increases in other areas. Uncertain which voters to appeal to, the party has left good policies unpromoted, including employment protections to sustainable development, urban development and a youth guarantee.

Political Strategy

Too many key consultants still think conservative-leaning voters requires courting, when almost twice as many voters have shifted progressive since Labour took office. Polling guru the renowned analyst warns them to stop chasing Reform voters: they've gone.

The Prime Minister is failing; there's no denying it when surveys indicate no politician would bounce back from these record-low ratings.

Potential Scenarios

Would anyone else perform more effectively, or have we reached a virtually unmanageable, insatiable public state of mind? Predictably, panic on the back benches will make conversation regarding new leadership widespread if the upcoming votes go as poorly as forecast – or, some suggest, before that.

The Way Forward

Here's ministers' paradox: The party's sole opportunity emerges from difficulty. Accept they might be wiped out whatever, so use this massive majority for the full parliament to pursue their inherent left-leaning values: implement substantial tax changes, generating substantial revenue.

Expect to lose the next election, so implement all policies immediately. Ignore survey results and voter research; enable the public to witness genuine commitment. The only way to restore some respect is to do transparently what they believe most just and equitable.

The government's responsibility is to take all necessary measures to block this outcome. Anticipate alliances, be acceptable to progressive partners when party affiliations is overshadowed by the fundamental boundary against a political danger unseen in contemporary politics.

This represents a mission to overcome hopelessness.
