The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and the video site.
