The former Liverpool manager admits a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage another team in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, so I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. Jota died tragically in a road accident alongside his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
