The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
