Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral video depicts the Australian man shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account includes videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another message on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared startled when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of last year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
