President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Injured Military Members to the White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Devastating Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with the family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
