Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
