Information Available Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Shooting
No fewer than 16 individuals were killed and in excess of 40 were hurt when assailants opened fire at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative remarked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, saying they were standing when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.
The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
In a statement, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must combat,” the statement read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. The injured include two police officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Hailed as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
